Terms of use

The rules for using this website and the Onda app.

Last updated 1 September 2026

These terms cover your use of this website and the Onda app, operated by Onda Technologies Limited (New Zealand company number 9450924). By using either, you agree to them.

These terms are not the agreement that governs shift work. Before you can accept or offer a shift on Onda, you accept a separate agreement in the app that sets out the arrangement between you, Onda and the other party. That agreement takes precedence over these terms wherever the two differ.

Who can use Onda

You must be 16 or over, be legally entitled to work in New Zealand if you're using Onda as a worker, and give us accurate information about yourself. You may only hold one account, and you may not use someone else's account or let someone else use yours.

What Onda does and doesn't do

Onda introduces businesses that need shifts covered to workers who want them, and handles the booking, records and payment around that. We verify identity, workers declare their eligibility to work in New Zealand, and we keep a record of completed shifts and ratings.

We are not the employer of workers who find shifts through Onda, and we don't supervise or direct the work itself. The business setting the shift is responsible for the conditions of the work and for meeting its obligations under health and safety law. Onda doesn't guarantee that any shift will be offered to you, or that any shift you post will be filled.

How you must behave

  • Be honest in what you tell us and what you tell the other party.
  • Turn up to shifts you've accepted, and pay for shifts that were worked.
  • Rate honestly, based on what actually happened.
  • Don't harass, discriminate against, threaten or endanger anyone.
  • Don't try to break into, scrape, overload or reverse engineer Onda.
  • Don't use Onda to arrange anything unlawful.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and we will if someone's conduct puts other people at risk.

Ratings and records

Ratings you give and receive form part of the record Onda keeps. Ratings are shown to the other side once both parties have submitted theirs, or 14 days after the shift, whichever comes first. You can't require us to remove an accurate rating, but you can tell us if you think one is false or was given in bad faith, and we'll look into it.

Fees

Businesses pay a service fee of 13% of the worker's pay, on top of that pay, for shifts booked through Onda. The fee is included in the shift cost held on the business's card before the shift. Workers are not charged to use Onda and no fee is deducted from a worker's pay.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you put into Onda. You give us permission to store it and show it to the people who need to see it in order for Onda to work — for example, showing a business the reasons you were matched to their shift.

Our liability

We provide Onda with reasonable care and skill, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for the conduct of a business or a worker you meet through Onda. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where those Acts apply to you.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is significant we'll tell you before it takes effect. Continuing to use Onda after that means you accept the updated terms.

Law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
